REFLECTIONS ON THE CORONAVIRUS – DAY 27 –
My grandfather died a decade or two ago. My grandmother and he had been married for over sixty years and they were close. A few weeks after his service, my mother called to tell me my grandmother was going in for surgery. She asked me to pray for her. My sister and I wondered if our grandmother was choosing to go and be with her husband.

My mom called me the morning of the surgery to tell me, “prayers are welcome, but don’t worry about her dying. Your grandmother had a dream last night that your grandfather came to her. He sat at the foot of her bed and told her, “God doesn’t have a place in heaven for you right now. I’ll come and get you when it’s time. In the meantime, take care of yourself.””

My grandmother is still alive and well at 103.

My understanding is this. Our bodies are born on a set date and they die on a set date, according to our soul’s plan. Furthermore, we are not bodies who have a soul, we are eternal souls residing temporarily in these physical bodies.

Because of this understanding, I do not have fear of dying. I am not afraid of getting Covid-19. I know if I were to come down with the virus, I would either get well again or if not, I would transition at my chosen time. What is there to fear?

Yet despite my unwavering faith and lack of fear, I follow the recommended precautions. I’m staying at home except for walks outside and occasional trips to the grocery store. I stay six feet for people outside of my household and I wear gloves and a mask when shopping. Why?

I have two answers. One: this time in history, where humanity around the globe is facing the threat of a pandemic, where people all over the world are experiencing social distancing, being in lock down, quarantine and/or isolation, is also part of our soul’s plan.

Two: I have tremendous compassion for the amount of suffering, pain, and fear people are feeling due to this global pandemic. Following these strong precautions gives people a sense of control in a seeming out-of-control situation. Having governments taking drastic measures, gives people a sense of peace, hope, and security in the face of a rising death toll and an unknown future.

We each have a choice before us. Do we stay asleep to who we truly are and go about our lives in fear of death and barely living? Or, do we remember who we truly are, shift our focus from death to living, and recognize the power we do have? In choosing this option, we not only transform our own lives, we begin to shine and make a difference on the planet.
